About Neurolingo Space

Neurolingo Space is a nonprofit initiative uniting neurocognitive researchers to conduct pioneering studies on language and neuroplasticity in former astronauts.

By exploring how extreme spaceflight conditions shape communication and cognitive function, we aim to enhance mission safety while advancing fundamental understanding of brain adaptation in high-stakes environments.

Our Mission

Neurolingo Space advances the study of language and cognition in former astronauts, exploring how extreme spaceflight conditions affect communication and neuroplasticity to enhance mission safety and expand our understanding of the human brain.

Building on this research, we aim to develop high-impact educational outreach programs that empower bilingual students across Latin America, expanding access to science and technology where it can drive the greatest social return.

By connecting rigorous research with meaningful global impact, Neurolingo Space seeks to foster scalable innovation with measurable educational and societal outcomes.

Our Team

Dr. Pilar Archila

Dr. Archila is a Senior Scientist for the International Space Station Program, where she examines station utilization through quantitative analysis of spaceflight investigations and conducts bibliometric assessments to measure research impact. Previously, her work focused on neurocognitive processes in bilinguals, employing behavioral and neuroimaging methods to study language and brain function.

She guides the foundation’s research and outreach efforts to drive progress toward its mission.

Dr. Vicki Wagner

Dr. Wagner is an Associate Professor of Psychology at the University of St. Thomas where she serves as Chair of the Institutional Review Board. She is passionate about mentoring the next generation of scholars.

Her role in the foundation is to ensure that all ethical standards related to data collection, including privacy and confidentiality, are upheld at the highest level.

Dr. Arturo Hernandez

Dr. Hernandez is a Professor in the Department of Psychology whose research focuses on the neural underpinnings of bilingual language processing. His work has been funded by the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation, and he currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Neurolinguistics. He is also the author of the book Mastery.

His role in the foundation includes research consultancy and strategic guidance for future research projects.

Evelyn Rodarte

Evelyn is currently completing her Ph.D candidacy at the University of Houston. Her research examines how social, experiential, and cognitive factors shape bilingual language processing across diverse bilingual communities.

Her role in the foundation focuses on recruiting control participants for the study, "Language History and Cognitive Health in Astronauts".

Neurolingo Space is incorporated as a nonprofit by the Texas Secretary of State.
